Noted as one of the most competitive and entertaining National Championships in NCAA Tournament history, 2016 had everything from out of nowhere upsets to heartbreaking buzzer beaters. It was the year of the unexpected. #15 Middle Tennessee State beating #2 Michigan State on day one set the stage for the madness and busted a whole lot of brackets. North Carolina and Villanova seemed to be on a collision course with both teams dominating every team that crossed their path. The National Championship was a back and forth matchup, the teams continued to trade baskets down to the last two minutes. With 4.7 seconds left, Tarheel Marcus Paige sunk an acrobatic three point shot to tie the game and send it to overtime, but the Wildcats had other plans. With the defense focused on Ryan Arcidiacono, Kris Jenkins was able to get free for a pass and sink the game winning shot on a buzzer beater from way downtown. As one of the most dominant teams in tournament history, Villanova beat North Carolina 77-74.
